Sustain Smart was founded by Marnus Kruger with a vision of filling a gap in the SME market for businesses needing specialist consulting services in the areas of international taxation, mergers and acquisitions, business structuring and ad hoc business support.

Marnus is a cross-border tax and structuring specialist with 14 years of experience in working to manage and minimise the tax exposures of multinational companies and optimise business structures.

He has extensive experience in African emerging markets, as well as globally. His core skills include international tax, transfer pricing, corporate tax, employee tax, tax accounting and tax optimisation, as well as people development and up-skilling, simplifying and enhancing business structures, supporting mergers & acquisition transactions, and business sustainability problem-solving.

Before founding Sustain Smart, Marnus held roles as Group Finance & Tax Executive at Bayport Financial Services, Group Tax Project Manager at Dimension Data, and Head of Africa: Tax at Liberty Group, among others.

Marnus is a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) and registered tax practitioner and holds a Masters in Commerce degree in International Taxation.

Sadia is a transactional tax specialist with more than 20 years of international experience assisting corporates to streamline and optimise their businesses and mitigating risks arising from transaction taxes. 

She held a strategic auditing role at SARS to identify risks and a technical role where she dealt with opinions, rulings and the reviewing of audit findings. As an international VAT expert she prepared the draft VAT legislation for the State of Qatar’s financial services industry. 

Her core skills include VAT, WHT, corporate tax, enhancing business processes, mergers & acquisition transactions as well as people development.

She previously held roles as Senior Tax Specialist at Bayport Group, Head of Indirect Tax at MMI Holdings and was a VAT Specialist at SARS.

Sadia holds a bachelor of Commerce degree as well as a postgraduate in VAT and is a registered tax practitioner with the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners.
